ASUU STRIKE: NANS Gives Union 7-Days Ultimatum To Call Off Strike

Frustrated by over four months of strike that has kept their future in the balance leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS zone ‘B’ has given the members of the Academic Staff  Union ofUniversities (ASUU) seven days to call off and return to the class room.

nans-logoThe Union warned that at the expiration of the seven days ultimatum they would be left with no other option than to confront the striking lecturers.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, the NANS zone B financial secretary and the leader in Abia state, Comrade Eluwah Miracle, said that the students are determined to take their destinies in their own hands by  invoking the last “C” in  NANS system of settling issues which is confrontation

Eluwah accused the members of ASUU of being selfish in their demands  from the federal government and politically motivated adding that  student would no longer watch ASUU destroy education in the country and jeopardize the future of  millions Nigerian youths.

He said, “NANS Abia state chapter has condemned in strong terms the on-going nation-wide strike embarked upon by ASUU, which timing is not only wrong, but also detrimental to the security and  of the country.

Eluwah said that ASUU is claiming that their demands are genuine, “But their approach and timing is very wrong, because the world is nows eeing it as being politically motivated and if they say it is not, they should go back to the classroom, while negotiation continues with the federal government”.

He maintained that the federal government has done well by offering ASUU the sum of N600 billion in addition to the N100 billion already made available this year for the funding of the universities, “which ASUU has rejected under the fragile nature of the country’s economy”.

On the issue that the funds from federal government has not been released, Eluwah said, “ASUU is claiming that the funds have not been released, why should the money be released when they have not accepted the offer by the federal government and until they accept the money cannot be released simple”.

He said that there are three Cs in the student Aluta struggle  which include Consultation, Consideration and finally Confrontation,  adding that they have made use of the first two Cs and will not hesitate to use the last one which is confrontation.

  1. An adage in Yoruba says; A Mother hen is protecting the chicks from hazard; Hence the chicks is complaining of not been allowed to play with rubble. This set of “leaders of tommorrow.” has been paid to revolt against their mentor n progenitors. Is there any hope for a better tommorrow?

  2. that’s nonsense talk by nans…i no blame dem na arts and social, management science nans that dnt understand what it means to study science esp engineering in nija…poor quality education is what we need…simple…make una go confront na prison una go land…dnt bite the hand dat feeds you

  3. NANS ZONE B (ABIA ZONE) wants to either take the credit of ending the strike within the week as announced yesterday or provoke ASUU so that it will change its decision to call off. NOTE that that is NANS ZONE B excluding the other Zones. It is the peak of degeneration for students (just as the sponsored market women did) to side a corrupt govt instead of their oppressed teachers who are fighting for the bright future of the nation. I advice the lecturers in that zone to pls ignore their students’ misbehavior and teach sincerely when ASUU VOLUNTARILY calls off the strike soon as announced yesterday.

  5. What a shame……….NANS is make sure a Statement against ASUU without a word or comment for FG.
There is no Unionism again in Students live. All we have remain are Political stooge parading themselves as Students Union Leaders. The Slogan of “Aluta Continual! Victoria Aceita” has be change to
“All loot Continue ! Victory for Rubbish”.
I weep for generation yet unborn with the manner our generation parade themselves because of a piece of spoilt meat from the politicians dinner table.
It is truth that “the Beautiful ones are not yet born” not because “the ugly ones refuse to die” but because the society we now live fail to learn from the first communication between two ugly couples who are not only blinded by love Mentally and emotionally but Physically. Mr. Greed and Miss Corruption
