Northern Youths Accuse Elders, Presidency Of Playing Politics With Insurgency

Northern youths, under the aegis of Arewa Youths Forum, Monday, accused the Presidency and northern leaders of playing politics with the menace posed by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria’s North East.

The aggrieved youths, who met in Kaduna expressed regret that despite repeated assurances, government had not been able to put an end to the spate of attacks that had crippled the region and displaced thousands of their natives into neighbouring countries.

In their review of the state of insurgency in the three northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, the executives of AYF noted with dismay that the terrorists had been able to move about freely and slaughter no fewer than 500 persons and sent over 100,000 others into exile in Cameroun, Chad and Niger republics in the last few weeks without any serious challenge from the security agencies.

In a communiqué released by the National President of the AYF, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, made available to Vanguard in Abuja, the youths said they were convinced that the issue of Boko Haram insurgency had been politicised by the Presidency, northern governors and religious leaders in the country.
