Even though HBO Go crashed during the “Game of Thrones” Season 4 premiere on Sunday night, April 6, the episode still broke some records.

“Two Swords” had the largest audience of the whole series, bringing in 6.6 million viewers from its first 9 p.m. broadcast, and 8.2 million for the entire night thanks to an 11 p.m. replay. That’s right, over eight million people were in Westeros last night.

The premiere is now HBO’s most-watched program since the “Sopranos” season finale in 2007. It’s pretty clear that the excitement for “Game of Thrones” has grown tremendously since last year when the Season 3 premiere brought in 4.4 million viewers. Maybe more dragons means more viewers.

This season of “Game of Thrones” looks to be packed with more drama and action than ever before, and at this rate it wouldn’t be surprising if the series beat out “Sopranos” in overall ratings.
