Abuja Airport To Be Shut Weekend For Runway Repairs

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Tuesday said that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) will be closed to all traffic from Saturday 5th midnight till Monday 6am, less than a week after flights to and from the airport resumed. It was earlier closed from July 5 to July 7 for ‘maintenance’.

The Senate Committee Chairman on Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodinma had earlier said the runway of the airport had to be closed for safety reasons.

According to him, there were potholes on the runway which had to be fixed.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan directed on Monday that the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), responsible for running the airport to provide an alternative runway for the airport to forestall similar inconveniences experienced by air travellers last week.
