Glo Premier League: Nasarawa Move Second, Bayelsa Off Drop Zone

All Top four teams in the Glo Premier League dropped points on Match Day 30 but Kano Pillars retained lead.

The defending champions’ failure to overturn a Bobby Clement’s 10th-minute goal saw them fall to their ninth defeat of the season at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Nasarawa United’s success at home to Kaduna United means the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ now top the standings by three points advantage on 50 points.

A hat-trick from Ugochukwu Leonard and Solomon Bitrus’ consolation for Kaduna settled a 3-1 win at the Lafia Township Stadium. The ‘Solid Miners’ have 47 points and are placed second on the standings.

Peter Ebimobowei scored his 14th goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Ebimobowei’s strike on 80 minutes doubled Samuel Tswaya’s opener on 27 minutes. The win lifts Bayelsa United to 37 points and further off the relegation zone.

Madu Chiamaka’s 9th minute effort either side of a Christian Pyagbara brace helped Sharks down struggling Nembe City in Port Harcourt. Sharks goalkeeper, Danladi Isah, saved a penalty on 46th minute.

The match between Abia Warriors and Dolphins was inconclusive with the Umuahia-based hosts 2-1 up in added time via Ndifreke Effiong brace from dead-balls. Emeka Atuloma scored the visitors’ only goal.

The match ended abruptly after the Center Referee rescinded his earlier decision to disallow Ndifreke’s match-winning free-kick following a brief discussion with his assistant. But Dolphins players and officials refused to continue play.

There were also wins for Lobi Stars and Taraba FC.
