Injured Busquets Ruled Out Of Vallecano Game, Doubtful For El Clasico

Barcelona midfielder, Sergio Busquet, is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s La Liga top-flight clash with Rayo Vallecano after being carried off on a stretcher during Wednesday’s Copa del Rey win over Villarreal.

The Catalan club announced on Thursday morning that scans have confirmed that the Spaniard, who recently signed a contract extension, suffered an ankle injury and will definitely miss Sunday’s home league match against Vallecano.

Busquets took a reckless stamp in his left ankle from Villarreal’s Tomas Pina as both challenged for the ball in the build up to the visitors’ equaliser at the Camp Nou.

Barca have not placed a time frame on the recovery of the 26-year-old who understandably has not suffered a broken bone but faces a battling fitness race for the home La Liga match against Real Madrid on 22 March, as well as Manchester City’s visit four days earlier in a Uefa Champions League round of 16 second leg.

He is also a doubt for next week’s trip to Eibar.

Barca trail leaders Real Madrid by two points in second place and face Athletic Bilbao in the eighth Copa del Rey final involving both sides on 30 May.
