Bayern Leverkusen midfielder, Gonzalo Castro has been sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury, the club have announced.
The 27-year-old suffered a meniscus tear during training, which requires surgery and will prevent the midfielder from playing a part in Bayer’s push for a top-three finish.
The club said in a statement: “Bayer go into the final sprint of the season without their midfield ace Gonzalo Castro. Bayer’s all-rounder retired during training on Wednesday morning with a tear of the medial meniscus in his left knee.”
The German ace has scored two goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances for the Bay Arena outfit. Bayer are presently level on 54 points with Borussia Monchengladbach in the race for the final Champions League qualification slot.
