GEJ-PDPDr. Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night presided over his last meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) as President, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which was declared open by the outgoing president, endorsed a former acting National Chairman of the PDP and former Defence Minister, Bello Haliru Mohammed, as acting BoT chairman.

The meeting was said to have been summoned to discuss former PDP BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih’s recent resignation and that of the immediate past national chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu.

The meeting, which started at 9.07P.M ended at about 11:15P.M.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said Mr. Bello was nominated to act for the next few months.

“Haliru Mohammed Bello was selected as the Acting Chairman of the BOT during the BOT meeting to serve for the next few months”, Ekweremadu, who is Chairman of the PDP Post-Election Review Committee, said.

On his part, the PDP BoT Secretary, Senator Walid Jibril, said President Jonathan had rejected the offer of stepping into the position left vacant by Mr. Anenih.

According to the BoT Scribe, Mr. Bello is to act for about two to three months when election will be conducted to choose a substantive chairman.

Mr. Bello accepted the endorsement and promised to work hard to restore confidence in the party, which has been weighed down by internal strife following its poor outing in the last general elections.

The meeting was attended by PDP Acting National Chairman Uche Secondus, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, BoT Secretary Walid Jibril, Professor Jerry Gana, PDP National Women Leader, Kema Chikwe and former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu.

Also present were former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, Jonathan’s Chief of Staff, Jones Arogbofa and Senator Hope Uzodinma.
