NASS Crisis: Rep Members Owe Children Who Witnessed Their Brawl Apology – Ezekwesili

RepsA former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, on Thursday took members of the House of Representatives to the cleaners over their misconduct on the parliament floor.

The former minister insisted that the lawmakers owe children, who watched their actions, an apology.

It was learnt that some school children were on excursion to the House of Reps when the show of shame happened on Thursday.

She stated this in a series of tweets on her Twitter handle, @obyezeks and mentioned an account that appeared to belong to the House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

“@doyakubu what message do YOU think those children took away from you and your colleagues today? Sadly, they will NEVER forget today”, she said.

“How many of you agree that members of House of Reps owe those children who had to watch their embarrassing brawl a BIG APOLOGY @doyakubu”.

It would be recalled that elections into principal offices in the green chamber came to an abrupt end as members engaged in a free for all over the Speaker’s purported rejection of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s directive on sharing of the remaining offices.

Ms. Ezekwesili, who is a leading advocate for the release of the kidnapped Chibok girls, described the lawmakers’ resort to violence as a mockery of democracy.

“@doyakubu Fighting/wrestling in the sanctum of democracy just makes a mockery of democratic ethos of disagreeing without being disagreeable.

“@doyakubu No progressive society in the league of those our lawmakers like to visit got their status WITHOUT DISCIPLINE .As in DISCIPLINE,” she said.

Mrs. Ezekwesili also enjoined the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Mr. Dogara to get feedback from citizens on the actions of the National of Assembly.

“Senate President @bukolasaraki and Speaker @doyakubu must get this FEEDBACK from citizens. When will 8th # NASS FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE? WHEN?” she said.
