A new recreation park was inaugurated by the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, in Topo, Badagry, the governor said more degraded open spaces will be reclaimed and turned into community parks and gardens in all the 57 councils of the state.

Ambode, according to a statement on Sunday, said Badagry was one of the tourism havens in the state that should be provided with recreational facilities that would accommodate more tourists.

He said, “Badagry is one of the thriving tourism havens which, in the nearest future, will attract fun-seekers from different works of life; hence the need for this type of initiative.”

Ambode, who was represented at the event by the Special Adviser on Housing, Mrs. Aramide Giwanson, said more attention was being paid to increasing the tourism potential of Badagry, adding that the ongoing construction of Whispering Palms Road would increase the influx of tourists in and around the area.

“This park will provide clean and fresh air from the lagoon adjacent the location. Also, more clean air is guaranteed to filter pollution that may increase risk of cancer and boost mental health, to mention but a few,” he added.

The Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, disclosed that the garden occupied approximately total land area of 17,710.00 square meters with soft and hard landscaping and recreation facilities for basketball, children play area, a five-aside football pitch, gazebo, multipurpose court and irrigation, among other facilities.
