Babysitter Arrested For Poisoning 6-Month-Old Baby To Death (Photo)

A 32-year-old Maryland babysitter is facing a first-degree child abuse charge nearly five months after the poisoning to death of a 6-month-old who was left in her care, Wtae has reported.

Baltimore police said officers were called shortly before 9 a.m. on Nov. 18, 2017, to the 5400 block of Plainfield Avenue for a report of a baby not breathing. Paramedics took the baby, Indira Henderson, to a hospital, where she died.

Police said the babysitter, with permission from the child’s mother, gave Indira an enema because she had not had a bowel movement in four days. Police said the babysitter used a lubricant on the pipette, and once administered, Indira immediately began convulsing.

An autopsy was performed on Nov. 19, 2017 and was completed on March 30. The death was ruled a homicide by poisoning. The lubricant that was used had Lidocaine in it, resulting in Indira’s death, police said.

Detectives arrested Lataya Hutchins, 32, on Thursday and charged her with first-degree child abuse.
