Embattled Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday reiterated his innocence in the forgery charges brought against him and three others by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF).
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Ekweremadu, retired clerk to the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa and his deputy, Ben Efeturi, are currently standing trial over alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order.
The Senator representing Enugu West said his only offence was emerging deputy Senate president against the wishes of the “powers that be”.
Speaking when members of Enugu State Economic Advisory Committee paid him a solidarity visit at his residence in Enugu, Mr. Ekweremadu said his hands were clean.
The deputy Senate president, in a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu, reiterated his commitment to the principles of the separation of power, independence of the legislature, and growth of the nation’s democracy.
