NGO Gives Out Over N12bn To Women

A non-governmental organization, Justice, Peace, and Development Commission (JPDC), a wing of the Ijebu Catholic Dioceses has given out over N12bn loan to 100,000 beneficiaries.

The Scheme, which has empowered about 100,000 beneficiaries, who are women in small and medium scale agric-business and allied sectors across the South West of Nigeria, is designed to boost the women and agricultural sector of the economy.

The loan which was meant to promote small and medium enterprises in agro-produce, expand existing ones, as well as empower women could be repaid over a period of 10 years.

According to Mrs Florence Ogunnupebi, the coordinator of JDPC microfinance institution, Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment (CGEE), at the award giving ceremony, the 80 beneficiaries of the credit facility have been faithful to the scheme.

Ogunnupebi maintained that, the commission has been giving out loans for this purpose since 2000 and would continue doing more.

“Since the inception of this scheme, we realised that we have some people that remained committed and stead fast to the programme with their performances outstanding.”
