Days after His Return, Enugu State Governor Remains Silent on Controversial Absence

With his eventual return to the state last Friday, after several months of absence, it has been speculated Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu state is likely to resume official duties on Tuesday.

Upon his arrival at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the Governor merely waved at the mammoth crowd that had gathered to welcome him. However, his extreme calmness and quietness since his return after spending 140 days outside his state for medical treatment has generated great concern amongst well-meaning residents of the state.

The governor is yet to make any official comments on his long absence which has been trailed by a lot of controversy. However, a member of the Enugu state House of Assembly has revealed that once the House gets a letter informing it of the Governor’s return, he would be cleared to resume work.

“For now, we still have Sunday Onyebuchi as the Acting Governor of Enugu State, it will remain like that until we get official information that Chime is back… Already we have indications that the letter may come tomorrow, but I can’t confirm it to you now”, the Lawmaker said.
