Ahead of the CAF Champions League clash between Recreativo Libolo and Enugu Rangers in Angola. Eagle stars Sunday Mba and Emeka Ezeh were dropped from the team that flew to Angola due to a passport hassle.
Both players were on the final 18- man squad for Saturdays Champions League clash but dropped at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos Thursday Afternoon after the German embassy refused to release their passport for them to board the flight to Angola.
“Mba and Ezeh did not travel with the rest of the squad to Angola because the German embassy in Lagos refused to release our passports for us to travel with it,” midfielder Ezeh told MTNFootball.com
“I am on my way back to Enugu now.”
Both players applied for entry visas to Germany last week ahead of a Super Eagles training camp in Germany, due to begin on May 16.
24- year- old Mba was looking forward to finally making his Rangers debut after a protracted contract talk involving his former club Warri Wolves, stalled his participation at this year’s CAF Championship.
In another 11th- hour change, defender Ekene Iwuorie replaced Uche Oguchi at the Owerri airport.
Rangers are Nigeria’s only representative still left in the competition. After the 0-0 draw in the first- leg match in Enugu about a fortnight ago, Rangers will travel to Angola hoping for a score draw or a win to progress to the money- spinning group stage of the championship.
