FCMB Governor’s Cup Day Four: Top Seed,Tadeja Majeric, Through to Quarter-Finals

Slovakia’s Tadeja Majeric, top seed at the ongoing 13th Lagos Tennis Championship, cruised into the last-four of the women’s singles with a comfortable straight sets victory over Melanie Klaffner of Austria.

Majeric dominated the first set and the decider, ending the contest with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in front of a packed crowd at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court, Onikan, on Thursday.

“It is too early for anybody to conclude that I will win this tournament,” The Slovakian said after the match.

“I made some mistakes and need to perfect them when I engage another tough opposition in the remaining matches.”

In the other quarter-final results, eighth seed and another Slovakian Dalila Jakupovic saw off Italy’s Giola Barberi 6-4, 6-2 while seventh seed Naomi Brandy of Great Britain beat Pranthana Thombare of India 6-1, 6-2.

Last year’s Fixtures 2 winner and 5th seed in this year’s tournament Cristina Dinu overcame 4th seed Chanel Simmonds of South Africa 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
