Plateau Assembly Speaker In Last Ditch Efforts To Reconcile With Gov. Jang As Impeachment Looms

jonah-jang1-465x300The Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, John Clark Dabwan yesterday night narrowly escaped being impeached after he pleaded with his colleagues to allow him settle issues with Governor Jonah David Jang.

The Speaker’s attempted removal from office was spearheaded by his deputy, John Bull Shekarau, who is purportedly acting on the instructions of the state governor.

Dabwan was widely regarded as a strong ally of Jang until they reportedly fell out and the governor personally asked for his resignation from office on Wednesday but the Speaker had declined.

Meanwhile, feelers from the House indicate that members are rooting for former Speaker Istifanus Mwansat (Pankshin South) whom they see as more assertive.
