Mata Lauds Die Hard Red Devil Fans, Says This Cup Will Pass

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says “the storm will pass and the sun will rise again”, following the club’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Steven Gerrard scored twice from the penalty spot before striker Luis Suarez scored his 25th goal of the Premier League season to seal victory for the ‘Reds’, who are only four points behind leaders, Chelsea, in second place with one outstanding match.

Writing on his blog on Grada 360, Mata tells the club’s fans: “In games like yesterday it makes me mad not being able to give you what you deserve.

“I know there is nothing I can say right now, but at least I want you to know how I feel.”

Liverpool pressed their hosts relentlessly in the opening stages of the encounter and the latter failed to break down the former’s compact midfield formation on few occasions they were with the ball with English teenager orchestrating what was a diamond midfield formation for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

“I have to say that our week at the training ground had been good and we were very hopeful ahead of this derby,” the record signing from Chelsea added.

“However, the day of the match everything went bad. It was a tough defeat and I want to tell you that we will give everything we have in order to forget about this in the remaining games.”

United will have to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Olympiacos on Wednesday night, should they dare dream of keeping hopes of winning this season’s Champions League- Mata’s only probable chance of featuring in Europe next season- alive.

Moreover, the Spanish midfielder is cup-tied for the last-16 second round encounter at Old Trafford, but he also called on fans to get behind their beloved club again, while praising them for their believe and commitment during Sunday afternoon’s home loss.

Mata said: “As you know I cannot play in the Champions (League) any more this season but I’ll be backing the team in Old Trafford as any other fan.

“If we score in the first few minutes, I think we can make it with your help.

“There are no words to describe your support in the stadium.”
