Ladoja Faults Plot To Impeach Ajimobi, Distances Oyo AP Lawmakers From Plot

Abiola-Ajimobi-and-Rasheed-Ladoja-Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has faulted the alleged plan by the state House of Assembly to impeach the incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, describing the move as wrong.

Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan yesterday shortly after observing the Eid-el-Fitri prayer at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque, the leader of Accord Party, who distanced his party’s lawmakers from the impeachment plot, stressed that the timing was wrong if it is true at all, as it is capable of plunging the state into crisis and chaos.

The former governor recalled his experience when he was impeached but later got justice from the Supreme Court, saying he would never wish Gov. Ajimobi, who he called ‘my brother’, to pass through the same harrowing experience.

He said: “I know what it means to be impeached as I have been a victim of impeachment before and I don’t wish it for my brother, Ajimobi. If the purported moves by the lawmakers to impeach the governor are true at all, Accord lawmakers in the Assembly are not part of it.

Ladoja continued: “I cannot understand why they will wake up and say there is misconduct. Let them publish it for people to see. But as far as I am concerned, our party is not part of any purported plan to impeach Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

“We have told Accord members in the House that we are not party to it and that they must distance themselves from it. As a matter of principle and reason, how many months does the governor have left in office? How many months do we have to the general elections?”

He vowed that he would pick the party’s expression of interest form for the 2015 governorship election.

Ladoja, who stressed that he had not endorsed any candidate for the poll, stated that his intention to contest the election would depend on the permission of his party members.

He said: “I can only endorse myself. I intend to pick the expression of interest form to contest the 2015 governorship elections. But this will be based on if my party wishes that I should contest the election”.
