Probably one of the oldest airports in Europe — Blackpool International Airport, has announced on Monday that it will likely close if no buyer could be found before October 7.

Blackpool International Airport, located in Lancashire, northwestern England, started flying in 1909. The 105-year-old airport is one of the first aviation sites in Britain, which has witnessed a lot of historical events of the country.

Earlier on August 28, 2014, the airport announced their intention to find a buyer for the airport operating company.

It said the airport operations have been making a loss for a number of years and it was exploring a number of options in an attempt to secure the future of the airport.

“We regretfully confirm that if no agreement can be reached before 7 October 2014 which ensures the viability of its operations, then it is likely that the airport operations will close,” the statement of the airport said.

The last commercial flights are expected to take place on October 15, it said.
