Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has declared his support for the former Head of State, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), to run for presidency in 2015 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The governor made his position known on Tuesday when the former head of state paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt, ThisDay reports.

Amaechi expressed believes that Buhari has a solution to corruption which he described as the main problems of Nigeria and insisted he would support the former head of state in his aspiration.

He, however, condemned the fact that several Nigerians had been accusing Buhari of tribalism and also being a religious bigot.

“The problem that you have in politics, which I have come to observe, is that those who managed your image in the past did not manage it properly. They allowed them erroneous label of you being a religious bigot to stick. Let me take myself for example, if you accuse me once, I accuse you 20 times and then go to the media to tell them my own side of the story.

Those who describe you as a religious bigot do not know you. Frankly, I used to think that way when I was in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but all that changed when I joined the APC and had the opportunity to relate with you very closely as a politician and realised that you are truly detribalised in the true sense of the word,” Amaechi said.

Amaechi promised to be at the declaration of the former head of state, promising that on the day of the primary election, Buhari would see them in their true colour.

Responding earlier, Buhari revealed he was in the state to solicit support from the governor and his people to emerge APC candidate in the 2015 elections. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of mismanaging the country and assured that he has the capability to stop insecurity as well as the impunity currently bedeviling the nation.

“We have a problem and the problem is fundamental. It is the question of securing and managing the resources of Nigeria. I appeal to the states and National Assembly to stabilise the system so that whoever wins next year’s election will not run the country with impunity. The beauty of democracy is the balance of power. PDP has messed itself up, it has messed the country up. Nigerians know we have a good opportunity to change the situation. What happened in Ekiti and Osun is a clear indication. It is either we totally mobilise and get the election results and form the government or we go under for good,” Buhari said.

  1. Dear Beloved General,

I have appreciated your love for Nigeria but was taken aback by your utterance during your to Governor Amaechii to solicit support, in which you accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of mismanaging the country and assured that YOU HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO STOP INSECURITY AS WELL AS THE IMPUNITY CURRENTLY BEDEVILING NIGERIA. This statement is a clear manifestation that:

    1) You hate Nigerians and you want everybody to die before ascending to ASO Rock. Where then is
you love for Nigeria and Nigerians

    2) If you claim you have the capability to stop Boko Haram but you refused invitation to attend the meeting of all former Heads of State and Governors in Nigeria to proffer a solution to end insurgence in Nigeria. Where then lies your love for Nigeria and Nigerians.
Your refusal to attend the meeting and your claim to have the capacity to end insurgence in Nigeria are clear indications that you might be one of the grey matter behind the strength of Boko Haram.
Yes, it is crystal clear from you boast statements and you may not have the capacity to deny it.
Sorry, that statement is a blunder to your political career. You may wish to relinquish your desire for the
presidency and wait for 2019 but you need to be supportive to the President to that he can propel you
    appropriately.

    Thank You.

  2. @Sam, you just displayed ignorance, by picking holes in GMB’s statement. He is more intelligent than Jonathan, hence wouldn’t want to be used, and dumped. Nigerians earnestly yearn for a ‘change’ come 2015, whether you like it or not.
