Lai Mohammed

The federal government of Nigeria has said it is negotiating with the Boko Haram faction holding the Chibok Girls. This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The statement comes after Boko Haram released a new video showing some of the abducted girls.

The video also shows what was claimed as an aerial attack by the Nigerian military that led to the death of some of the girls.

In reaction to the video release, the information minister said, ”We are on top of the situation. But we are being extremely careful because the situation has been compounded by the split in the leadership of Boko Haram. We are also being guided by the need to ensure the safety of the girls.

”Since this is not the first time we have been contacted over the issue, we want to be doubly sure that those we are in touch with are who they claim to be,” he added.
