Man Docked For Carting Away 100 Tubers Of Yam At Lagos Market

A man, Olayinka Yusuf, 28, was on Friday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing 100 tubers of yam at broad daylight at the popular Oyingbo market in Lagos Mainland.

The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Silas told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 13 at about 7.10 a.m. at Oyingbo market.

“The accused was asked to wheel the tubers of yam to a spot nearby but absconded with them,” he said.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and prescribed three years jail term for offenders.

In his defence, the accused who was charged on an account of stealing pleaded not guilty to offence.

In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, granted the accused a bail of N30,000 with one surety in like sum and  adjourned the case to November 1.
