Nigerian Universities Cut-Off Marks And Post UTME

A lot of inquiries have been made through Information Nigeria about the the recently concluded JAMB UTME exercise, with a lot of students and concerned parents asking if the Post UTME examinations would hold this year and also the cut-off marks of various schools.
From the information available to us, most tertiary institutions would hold the Post UTME/Post UME examinations this year.
JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, was recently quoted saying, “It seems to me that the post UME may be tautological and redundant, but as of now, government says that there must be post UME, You see we have made a mistake of bringing in the Post-UME. Nobody can just wake up and stop it easily until everybody is convinced that the job that is going on in JAMB is OK”.
On the issue of cut-off marks, this has not been released by most institutions as most universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are waiting for the finalization of the JAMB UTME results. At the moment some results are still undergoing screening, that is why cases of missing results abound.
The cut-off marks and Post UTME/Post UME details of the various universities, polytechnics and colleges of education would be released with time. The best source of information still remains the institution selected by the student, students should bring out time to learn more from their various institutions.

  1. Gideon, many candidate result are undergoing screening because jamb could not trust them. Many of the results confiscated were as a result of shading wrong paper type. Maybe their machine letter detect you or something like that.

  3. Please JAMB I need your help to look into the issue of Post UME Examination. Post UME Examination bring about tribalism, sectionalism and corruption. Also, it tells us that JAMB Examination is not reliable. Please JAMB you need to cancel Post UME or you organize the Post UME your self because JAMB is more transparent than the all Institution. In all the School, Post UME examination paper always link out to the candidates before the exams. Only the Universities you can here about Senators list, Governors list and so on. So Post UME should be cancel.

  4. Pls jamb should stop this post ume exam because it is not helping at all ,before i use to think that is one of the best way to know who wrote his or her jamb by themselves but is not like that. Is another opportunity for school to make money, pls and pls again jamb should do something about this post ume.

  9. Nothing can take away the post ume from Nigeria’s Tertiary Institution,If there is no post ume what do you think admission will be like this year, I mean just pass jamb and bribe somebody and you are in. this years admission will be a survival of the fittest. and I also think various schools will increase their jamb cut-off mark to screen candidates, so i feel for you to be sure of admission this year without post ume you will need to have at least 270 and above in jamb to even stand a chance. and what do u guys think will be the probable jamb cut off points for each course especially OAU.(so think twice)

  10. i want jamb to do something fast about the result that is not out quickly.on the issue of postume,if the schools insisted in doing postume,i want them to embark on it on a neutral ground, they should remove any form of tribalism, bribrey and if posibble they should jamb to conduct the post ume b cos[ bribrey is the enemy of justice]thanks.my email is [email protected].

  12. I want to firstly appreciate the effort of JAMB in trying to eradicate POST UME/UTME. A fact we must understand is that any society/state whose citizens are mandatorily subjected to her governing authority is never democratic. At least if more than 50% of prospective students are supporting the eradication of POST UME/UTME with undoubtable proofs, then all education authorities are expected or supposed to listen to the masses if not that they are really after their financial profits which they usually make from POST UME/UTME exercise. As for me, POST UME/UTME should be critically exermined and let justice be done. Thanks.

  14. POST UTME OR NO POST UTME ALL I’M SAYING IS LET THERE BE CORRUPTION AND MALPRACTICE FREE EXAMINATION.SO AS TO AID A BETTER NIGERIA AND PEOPLE AND TO BE ABLE (i.e STUDENTS) TO STAND ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE BLAMELESS AND A TRUE AMBASSADOR.

  15. Corruption, greed, compromise, mediocrity and even badwill have subjected Nigerians to unwanted captivity, frustration, joblessness, illiteracy, criminal tendencies, violence, etc. Many students, undergraduates, graduates, even the so-called profesionals, neither speak nor write good grammar. Many lack the logical sequence, the epistemological enthusiasm, the moral discipline, the sociological prudence and the spiritual sanctity that make one a true academic and refined person. Please, form the habit of reading. Minimize pigeon English and SMS shorthand grammar. Do not put your hope on expo and bribery. Work hard and surrender your destiny to God. God is ever faithful to those who love, trust and obey Him. Goodluck friends.

  16. I thank informationnigeria.org for giving us a unique information in Nigeria. remain bless and focus. Please continue telling us what is happening in Nigeria especially in Education and I (Chukwuma Ndubuisi) particularily want to know the UNIBEN cut off mark for International Studies and Diplomacy and if POST UME would be taken this year. if possible, Please send the information to my E-mail. [email protected]. or SMS 08083028456. THANKS for the previlages given to us to post comments.

  17. Guys let us look critically at the situation.Every one knows that jamb is corrupt, there re cases whereby some students score up to 280 and such students cannot even construct a simple sentence.Lets everybody go and prove themselves in post ume exams as the event of cheating is at it’s bearert minimum.I believe that it’s lazy students who got their marks in a crooked way that is calling for the cancellation of post ume exams.Besides Nigeria is a corrupt society.schools would want to make more money from students and believe me when money is involved,it would take the grace of God to stop it.So jambites grab ur notes and lets start preparing for post ume cos it’s going to be survival of the fittest except you want to study yoruba language education…lol

  18. Though the F.G has officially made post-ume compulsory but I still think most of our universities just bring up the exam to ‘extort’ money from us students. Imagine the number of students that buy the so called post-ume form and the few ‘they’ will admit. The only solution to the problem extortion is for JAMB to improve on. It should not only think of conducting the exam, it should also rid malpractice and ‘corruption’ in the exam so that there wouldn’t be need of anything called post-ume. Pls., i would like to be clued-up on FUTA’s post-ume.

  19. pls pls pls help me out with my result i dont know what the problem is i did not involve myself in examination malpractice so why will my result be withheld, am just feed up i keep checking it day by day,the more i check it the more frustrated i am…..after somtime only my enlish was released the rest are (

  24. IMPORTANT NOTICE! IMPORTANT NOTICE!! IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!

Today’s, 28/05/2010, papers carry the headline that “HOUSE OF REPS STOPS POST JAMB”.

    Let’s get the fact’s right:

    1) Only a BILL was introduced today by Samson Positive ( PDP, Kogi) calling for the scrapping of POST UTME. It is still a BILL and not yet a LAW. House proceedings on the matter was later adjourned to next week.

    2) For the Bill to scrap POST UTME to become a law, it would have to pass through the Senate and then the President has to sign it into law, IN NIGERIA, THIS COULD TAKE FOREVER.

    3) Nigerian Universities are AUTONOMOUS, and it is they and they alone who can determine the criteria for admitting students.

    4) In 2008, it was said that “POST UME EXERCISE” would be scrapped, POST UME EXERCISE still held across the country in 2008 and even in 2009. So this is just another bluff.

While the topic on whether POST UTME should be scrapped or not is raging in the House of Reps, I can assure you that UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS IS GOING TO CONDUCT POST UTME SCREENING EXERCISE THIS YEAR, so you better be prepared. and go get UNILAG POST UTME PAST QUESTIONS and practice them, they could really help you.

Most of You have asked for the cut off mark for various courses. Hopefully, by next week I should paste the cut-off marks for last year.

For more information concerning UNILAG POST UTME SCREENING EXERCISE OR UNILAG POST UTME PAST QUESTIONS, you could call me on 01 827 4357 or 0818 212 0314, or email me on “[email protected]” or better still follow my “UNILAG POST UME” page on facebook, were I update and interact with my followers.

  26. It is a pity that when there more pressing national issues, the lawmakers are busy debating issue of less importance.

If you make inquiry you will find out that the lawmaker that sponsor this motion don’t have any of his children in Nigeria institutions. The post ume has been the last hope for applicants from humble home who are hardworking. A recent survey in University of Benin show that examination malpractice has reduced drastically since the introduction of post ume. In fact, admission into University is becoming more difficult for those from rich family as they are usually screen out by post ume. That explain why many of the private universities are flourishing.

Please House of Rep. Mind serious issue. There are better issue to look into in the educational sector including quality of facilities, workers welfare package, salaries and the lots not admission.

I think those behind this motion should be probed. How much do Jamb give them.

  32. One truth about the Post-UTME that I have not seen told is:
some candidates will not be writing all the four subjects offered in the UTME during the Post-UTME, especially in UNILAG.

Art students for example, may not be offered Commerce or Economics; it changes! Instead, a candidate who sat for English Language; Economics; Government and Literature may be faced with; English Language; Government; Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Religious Studies and Fine Art, whether you chose it or not.
One subject is certain however; English Language – a general subject even if a candidate is putting in for French studies.
Here are free English Language practice questions for POST-UTME Candidates in this link:

POST UTME is good news , why? b,cos students with 250 who ordinarily might not have the chance for courses like medicine, elect, chem.,mech engineering, accounting, economics, can still prove their stuff in post jamb.
uniabuja last yr cut-off for post jamb was 180(na federal pikin he bee)

  42. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Thursday has set 180 as the cut-off mark for admission into all categories of tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the 2010 academic session.
The decision was reached after the first combined policy committee meeting on admission to degree-awarding institutions
The cut-off mark applies to all the candidates that sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted on April 17.
Minister of Education Prof. Ruqqayatu Rufa’i, announced the decision after the meeting at the National Universities Commission, Abuja.

According to her, “We have met with the Vice- Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts, and discussed the issue of the cut-off mark for this year’s UTME; and then we agreed on 180 as the cut-off mark.
“Since it is a unified examination, we agreed that it should be uniform for polytechnics, colleges of education as well as universities.”
The minister also directed JAMB to publish the list of candidates of educationally disadvantaged states, to facilitate the process of identification.

She stressed the need for institutions to accord special attention to candidates from educationally less-developed states, according to their admission guidelines.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, while speaking on the issue, said 180 was agreed upon by the heads of tertiary institutions present at the meeting.

He also enjoined universities to adhere to their admission quota or risk the revocation of their licences.

In his address at the meeting, the Chairman, Governing Board of JAMB, Prof. Sam Ukpabi, explained that the UTME, as the new matriculation examination, had come to stay.

Ukpabi noted that the UTME began on a strong footing, on account of the speedy release of results.

He said the UTME was part of the road map to education developed by the immediate past Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu, and approved by the Federal Executive Council.

He noted that the UTME was introduced to address the challenges of limited space in Nigerian universities.

Ukpabi said tertiary institutions across the country were now better positioned to admit students, as a result of the speedy release of examination results, adding that six levels of admission would be conducted simultaneously.

    1) The cut-off mark to be eligible to sit for UNILAG POST UME is 200 in your JAMB.

    2) Only those who chose UNILAG as First Choice are eligible to sit for the POST UME EXERCISE.

    3) You are going to be tested based on the FOUR (4) subjects you did in your JAMB.

    4) Ten questions are asked per subject, 40 questions in total. Time alloted is 40 minutes for the 40 questions.

    5) Your JAMB score is 50% of your aggregate score while your POST UME is the other 50%.

    6) Cut-off marks are gotten from the aggregate scores. The highest cut-off for the 2009 POST UME was 69% (LAW) while the Lowest was 49%(Guidance and Counselling).
