The federal government Saturday commended the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over the successful conduct of this year’ s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE) held across the country Saturday.
Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’I; Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, as well as chairmen, Senate and House Committees on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije and Hon. Farouk Lawan respectively, who monitored the examination in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), praised JAMB for improving on the conduct of the examination, which was almost marred in the city, as a result of the Peoples Democratic Party Convention National Convention.
While Rufa’i praised the peaceful conduct and improvement in the seating arrangement of the examination, Wike expressed hope that the biometric data capture would completely eliminate examination malpractice, while Chukwumerije pledged the Senate’s support to the examination body, through appropriate legislation. Meanwhile, science students who sat for yesterday’s UTME have called on JAMB to put science students into consideration while preparing for subsequent examinations for better performance.
About 1.5 million candidates sat for the examination in several centres across the country. This year’s question papers were differentiated with colours such as ‘Types Red’, Green, Purple and Yellow to curb examination malpractice, unlike those of previous years that came in Types A, B, C and D. Some of the science students, who spoke with THISDAY in Lagos, specifically requested for scientific calculators, as against the regular ones that were provided.
Master Anthony Nnolim, who sat for English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, said the regular calculator did not help him much, especially in subjects such as Physics and Chemistry. Miss Tosin Ayodele, who sat for English Language, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce, also wished she had used a scientific calculator.

I thank jamb 4 exam well conducted but what they did 2 d candidate is quite unfair by recommending a novel 2 read nd after all d money spent nd time wasted 4 those novel jamb did nt set a single qstn 4rm it. Its nt gud to rob peter nd pay poul. I also want 2 use this opportunity 2 beg jamb 2 keep science student in consideration. Physics, chemistry nd maths is full of calculation nd 1+1 calculator they provided cnt do anything. I suggest either alow scientific calc. or set theory qstn.

Thank u jamb for the exam but a little problem there were supposed to be questions on the two novels potters wheel and sucessesors it was in the syllabus given to us many people really used money to buy them.

I thint that jamb has collaborated with the authurs of the books, while we are praying that corruption level should decrease in the country, they came out with subsidy, now it is jamb turn 2 scam students. Am using this medium 2 tell those that will write it next year that they should nt buy any book. Since u’ve develop new way 2 scam students, then students will develop new ways 2 cheat. out of 540 student take the exam at my own centre 538 are involve in malpractises. The police men leave them to cheat in the hall it almost pain me. NIGERIA!!!

The utme exam written ds year was a complete scandal cos in my centre,out of abt 50 students 7itting,ìù cheated
I hope jamb is able to fish out those that engaged in exam malpractices so that the efforts of those that attended endless lessons nd burnt midnight candles will nt be in vain.jamb should also be merciful nd give unto d students scientic calculators nd not the”completely useless nd inefficient ones”given to us.

Jamb did well on the last concluded examination held across the nation. I know jamb will always live to do more. But let me emphasise on the type of calculator presented by Jamb to the candidate, is not realy helping xsppecialy for those writting sicence subject like physics, chemistry etc. we need calculator called scientific, because we are science! Thank you much more. i believe some thing would be done in regards to the calculator. Jamb remains the only professional exam body with differences. KUDOS TO JAMB.
The exam was mean and fun. The two recommended novels help in understanding the comprehension better. But my problem is the 3 hrs, 30 mins time. More time especially in calculation courses. Thanks to you all once again.

Over d yrs jamb has tryed in doin sumtin different. Sum students who sat 4 last saturday exam complaint of scientific calculator while literature students complaint of questions not given 2 they base on syllabus. Dis r d area jamb need improvement. I hope jamb wil take it time 2 mark dose scripts wel. It is not easy 2 wait 4 anoda 1 yr. Kudos 2 jamb
