Commissioner defends verification of council workers

AN assurance has come from the Borno State Commissioner for Local Council and Chieftaincy Affairs, Babakaka Bashir Garbai that council workers in the state need not be afraid over the ongoing  “auditing and verification” in the local councils.

He said the exercise was aimed at fishing out ghost workers in such councils.

The commissioner disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri, the state

capital, while addressing council chairmen, secretaries and local education secretaries on the commencement of ‘biometric data capture’ exercise.

He said the verification and auditing of council workers had become necessary to ascertain genuine workers in the councils.

He said: “Let me reiterate the importance of addressing you here on his issue of ghost workers in the council areas. The verification and auditing of council workers is not to witch-hunt any worker or council official, but to authenticate the total number of workers in all the local council areas in the state.”
