“Pray for the survival of Nigeria” – IBB at 71

On the occasion of the celebration of his 71st birthday, former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida asked Nigerians to continue to pray for the survival of Nigeria because “Nigerians have no other country they can call our own.”

It will be noticed that the former head of State has been in the news a lot recently, commenting on virtually everything going on in the country ranging from the issues as tense as the Boko Haram to the country’s performance in the just concluded London 2012 Olympics.

While Babangida claims that he believes that the country was indivisible, he challenged Nigerians of all ages to ensure they do everything possible to keep the nation one. In his words: ‘We should pray for the survival of Nigeria; we have to work together as a people. We must make it (Nigeria) work. Anything you can do to keep Nigeria together, do it. The country will be better for it.”

The former President had been hosting the Niger State Acting Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who led a delegation to his hill top residence in Minna to felicitate with him on his birthday. He therefore said there was still hope that Nigeria will become one of the greatest countries, not only in Africa, but in the entire world.
