2015: No Progress For Nigeria Until An Igbo Man Becomes President – Orji Kalu

Former Abia State governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has been telling all who care to listen that it is time a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction emerged. Again, Kalu has passionately reiterated that for the country to make meaningful progress, an Igbo man should be elected as president at the 2015 polls. He stated this even as he dispelled insinuation that he scuttled Dr. Alex Ekwueme’s presidential ambition in 1999.

Kalu, who is the founder of Njiko Igbo, a socio-political group committed to the advancement of  Igbo interests in the country, stated this yesterday while speaking as guest on “Platform”, a Radio Nigeria political programme. He said the need for a president of Igbo extraction had become imperative because apart from the South-East, all other zones of the country had opportunity of producing a president.

Consequently, Kalu has said that in the interest of equity and fair play, other sections should support the emergence of an Igbo man as president in 2015, pointing out that the Igbos were the most populous ethnic group in the country as at today.

His words: “I am not even canvassing for Nigerian president. I am saying that an Igbo man should be president in 2015. It matters where the president comes from because all segments of the society had been president. People continue letting Ndigbo down because they think we were defeated during the war, which is not true.

“And until an Igbo man rules this country, the country will not move anywhere.”

  1. Just imagine what this man is saying, I wonder why people don’t think before they talk. Nigeria is one regardless of tribe, religion etc. This is how conflict start. Only God we trust in and in Him we laid Nigeria, He will surely make Nigeria prosper

  2. Emphasizing ethnicity at this time,is not good for the present already over heated polity.I think, statesmen who truly desire progress for the nation shouldn’t make inflamatory statements that will further create widening gaps in a multicultural polity, but should be concerned with what will bring cohesion as indivisible entity and bring progress that’ll impact ordinary citizens. The present administration’s success should rather concern our brothers in south East, whose leadership is headed by their kinsman-President EBELE AziKWE and his team,SGF and MOF who’s charge of the nations economy.Allow them to make lasting legacy that’ll remain indelible in the minds of ordinary Nigerians. There would be progress, even with the present administration, being headed by a man’s whose name is traceble to igbo culture.Let there be peace that’ll pave way for national development and cohesion.

  3. Dr Orji Uzo Kalu ‘s comments about IGBO PRESIDENCY makes sense For people who is philosophically enough to understand. Please no one should cast aspernsion on him. But sir Dr Orji, please remember that there was a country after NIGERIA. Which is BIAFRA. Since we cannot actualize IGBO PRESIDENCY here, let us join hand together to actualize the REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA.
