A former Commissioner for Tourism in Lagos State, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, however, says its owners, which he gave as MDIC, have reached agreement with the financiers – Diamond Capital Investment – on terms of operation.”I am delighted that all parties have reached an agreement on how to move the project forward and hopefully, the hotel, which would help boost the tourism potential of Lagos State, will commence operation this year,” he says.

The hotel has 102 Luxury Suites, two Royal Suites, with an elegant reception area. It also commands a bar, café, gourmet restaurant, banqueting facilities, auditorium, conference rooms, terraces and sundeck areas. Room facilities include security locks, personal safe, internet connection, satellite TV, en suite showers, air-conditioning, desk and chair, mini bar, trouser press and hairdryer. The two luxurious Royal Suites are located on the fourth deck, offering separate bedrooms and living areas, a private sauna and access to a 20-metre terrace.

The Sunborn also incorporates (or incorporated in its original design) two interconnected conference rooms for 40 to 80 guests and an auditorium for up to 34 people, equipped with the latest technology such as DVD, Dolby Surround-system and a video projector. For smaller meeting, there is a VIP meeting room for up to 15 people with a dedicated bar, sauna, showers and changing room.

The Yatch is said to have cost ?8Billion to purchase.

Already, critics have labelled the Sunborn Yacht Hotel (appropriately renamed Lagos Floating White Elephant) as the Centre of Excellence’s biggest poster for corruption, and insist that tax payers money was used to acquire it.

  1. the sunborn yatch was widely reported as belonging to lagos sate government and now is being shrouded in secrecy. it is easily irresponsible in these days of bombings that a boat of that size will be so close to the governors’ house, the army chiefs’ house, the central bank of nigeria in the commercial nerve center of the commercial capoital of nigeria and YOU DON’T KNOW THE OWNER. NO WONDER THE BOMBS ARE GOING OFF UNRELENTLESSLY.
