Covenant University Rescinds Decision, To Recall Expelled Students

covenantuniversityThe over 120 students expelled from Covenant University, Ota in Ogun state, last November, can now heave a sigh of relief as indications have emerged that Faith based institution, owned by renowned preacher, Bishop David Oyedepo, has agreed to lessen the ‘harsh’ punishment to 4 weeks suspension.

The students were expelled for not attending a university assembly – a common and compulsory practice associated with the institution. We gathered that the university management decided to rethink its earlier position following several pleas from parents of the affected students, lawyers and National Human Rights Commission among others.

Sources say the students are expected to rejoin their colleagues for academic activities sometime this month or early February.
