Rizespor of Turkey forward, Uche Kalu has ruled himself out of the Nigerian squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, informationng.com gathers. Kalu since joining the Eagles’ pre-AfCON camp in Faro, Portugal, has struggled to recuperate from a groin injury and has therefore decided to exempt himself.
The former Enyimba forward, 26, who could not train with the rest of the squad this week owing to the injury, had his condition closely monitored by the Nigerian team doctor.
Stephen Keshi now has the option of calling in a replacement or sticking with his current squad before the deadline to submit his final squad of 23 players to CAF elapses by midnight of 9th January.
It would be recalled that Kalu, 26, missed Eagles’ tune-up friendly against a Catalonian side due to the injury.
