Search For Fleeing Maina Intensifies As IGP Mulls Bounty, INTERPOL Options

abdulrashid maina_200_200For over one hour on Wednesday, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar was grilled by Senators over his inability to produce the embattled chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina when Senate President David Mark issued a warrant for his arrest.

The IGP was summoned by the lawmakers to explain his failure to execute the arrest warrant on Maina.

Abubakar who appeared before the Senator Paulinus Igwe led Senate Committee on Police Affairs, vowed to go after Maina with International Police, INTERPOL to help track him down wherever he may be hiding abroad.

The police boss also told the Senators that he was prepared to give a handsome reward for whoever apprehends the fleeing Maina if that would help the police to apprehend him but lamented that he is handicapped by the delay in the signing of the 2013 budget.

Explaining the steps the police have taken in a bid to arrest Maina, Abubakar told lawmakers that he withdrew the police officers attached to Maina immediately the senate issued the warrant of arrest and since that time, he disappeared into thin air.

He however, explained that they are yet to scan the immigration documents to determine if the suspect has left the country and which country he ran to.
