The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP. Amos Olaoye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jalingo that security agents were on top of the situation.

According to him, Wukari is saturated with heavy presence of anti-riot policemen and soldiers.

While appealing for calm, the PPRO warned that security agencies would not take it lightly with anyone found trying to foment trouble in the area.

It is to be recalled that an argument between two amateur players, while in the field in Wukari on Saturday, ended in a bloodbath. Reportedly, a Muslim footballer gunned down a Christian teammate, following a quarrel. Churches, mosques, commercial and residential buildings were torched. This caused retaliatory attacks.
