Minister_Of_Education_Ruqayyatu_RufaIIn a bid to avert a looming industrial crisis in Nigeria’s Universities, The House of Representatives Tuesday summoned the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai and officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This is sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House by Rep Bashir Babale, PDP, Kano, who lamented the incessant strikes by university lecturers in a bid to force government to meet its obligations on issues that have been agreed upon in the best interest of the nation’s tertiary education system.

Babale who noted that an ultimatum on strike notice by the lecturers expires in nine days, urged his colleagues to quickly intervene with a view to avert the impending strike.

Hon  Osai Osai (PDP, Delta) who seconded  the motion said without proper education the nation’s democracy cannot survive and that if university education collapses, it will affect other sectors in the nation.

When put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the resolution was unanimously accepted.
