7 People Killed in Plateau Communal Clashes

mend-lilitants (1)The invasion of Tsamiya village by some unknow gunmen, leading to the death of about seven persons has painted a setback to the quest of the government and the Special Task Force in charge of security in Plateau State to restore peace to the troubled Wase and Langtang North local government areas of the state.

There have been disagreement between Fulani and Tarok in the two areas over minor misunderstanding which had brought about the death of more than 50 people in the past three weeks.

In the early hours of Wednesday, some gunmen invaded Tsamiya village in Wase local government which lasted for more than two hours. Seven people were killed in the attack and several houses set on fire by the attackers before fleeing into the bush as the security operatives arrived at the village.

Pastor Naniir Kartim Napbut, the Secretary of Ngwang Ishi Otarok, in a statement signed by him, strongly condemned the attack and alleged that it was a terrorist conspiracy against Tarok settlement.

Napbut added that the latest assault was barbaric and claimed many lives while others were seriously injured.

According to him, the withdrawal of the assailants brought peace but the appearance of the military personnel further compounded the matter, adding that, “It is disturbing that a community that was attacked, that neededprotection from the military has suffered humiliation from perceived protectors. The ugly happenings has put it in the minds of Tarok people that there is high level of conspiracy against them.”

The group added that, “The series of attack on the Tarok nation are nothing less than terrorism. We are making a clarion call for a cease fire or the international community should be called to the aid of Tarok people. Enough of these killings.”

Captain Salisu Mustapha, the spokesman of the special Task Force, however said that the command was yet to make confirmation on the attack on Tsamita village.
