The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has hit a Kaduna-based radio station, Liberty FM with a N2 million fine over an Hausa phone-in discussion programme tagged, ‘In A Dalili.’

Reports say the station was said to have aired a live comment by a caller who objected to the planned visit of the National Good Governance Tour, NGGT, team to the state on March 18, 2013 without giving the minister the right of reply.

In addition to the fine, Liberty Radio FM was also asked to feature the minister as a guest in subsequent edition of the programme, in line with section 3.4.3 of the Nigerian broadcasting code to ensure he has opportunity to reply to comments made on his tour.

In a letter written to the station by NBC, the commission insisted that the station was obliged to pay the N2 million fine as directed, having accepted to have committed a professional misconduct in response to the query issued to by the Kaduna zonal office of the commission, Vanguard reports.

The station is expected to pay the fine within 14 days or get a higher fine.
