Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), has backed the report on the Baga mayhem submitted to him by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), declaring that whoever doubts the authenticity of the report can conduct an independent investigation.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr. Karounwi Adekunle yesterday, the NSA concurred with the DHQ’s report that terror attack that claimed several lives in Baga, North of Borno State was perpetrated by militants of the Boko Haram sect.
He noted that the pattern of the Baga attack had similarities with the Boko Haram insurgency, because the terrorists had made bombing and setting ablaze of houses and schools their stock in trade each time they struck an area.
“This pattern of arson which has been established by Boko Haram, is also the ‘modus operandi’ of terrorist organisations” he said.
The press statement from the NSA office reads in part : “Our attention has been drawn to some purported satellite images of Baga town in some newspapers concerning the attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram members on soldiers and innocent citizens on the 16th of April, 2013.
“This is not the first time that Boko Haram members have launched attack on Baga, they did so in December, 2012 which led to the death of several innocent people and their houses set on fire. “It is pertinent for the public to know that Boko Haram has concessioned its media relations to Al- Qaeda, hence the heavy propaganda.”
