Manchester United manager David Moyes has finally set out his main plans for what will be his first transfer window at Old Trafford. According to ESPN, United have made initial contact with Barcelona over a potential purchase of Cesc Fabregas.
At the top of David Moyes’ list of targets are Marouane Fellaini, Thiago Alcantra and Cesc Fabregas. And with the most likely departure of striker Wayne Rooney, Moyes feels there is a need to make a ‘statement’ signing.
Moyes is interested in re- enforcing United’s midfield which has been depleted by the close- season exit of retired Paul Scholes and the gap the anticipated departure of Anderson and Nani will leave. As it stands, United are looking forward to making at least two signings in the midfield area, or more.
As confirmed to ESPN, Barcelona and United are already holding talks over both Fabregas and Thiago.
While the Catalans will be considering a fee at the tune of £18 million for Thiago, leaving the final decision over a move to Old Trafford to the player, there is more uncertainty over Fabregas.
Though Fabregas has had a relatively slow start at the Camp Nou compared to his quality at Arsenal and his failure to knock Xavi out of Barca’s starting eleven, the Catalan giants are still not sure of what to do with the Spanish midfielder. Also the 26- year- old midfielder is understood to be wavering whether to move away from his beloved childhood club, nevertheless, Manchester United might be willing to tempt Barcelona with a figure of over £25 million.
All been said, Moyes would be able to offer Fabregas the starting role he has sought for at the Camp Nou should he chose to move to Manchester.
At the moment, Thiago looks the most likely player available for United, although there are uncertainties over wages and whether a move to the Premier League this time ‘round is the best for his career.
