Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, has rebuked Godfrey Obaobona for snubbing Arsenal FC when the Londoners invited him for trials.
According to MTNFootball.com, Obaobona has said it was disrespectful for Arsenal to ask him to undergo trials after his achievements with the Super Eagles.
But Ikpeba, who was tutored by Frenchman Arsene Wenger at Monaco, said the Sunshine Stars skipper got it wrong.
“Obaobona was wrongly advised, he sould have gone for the trials even if he does not make it onto Arsenal, another English side would have seen him,” he told MTNFootball.com.
“I know he would say he has won the AFCON and plays for Sunshine Stars but he should understand that it’s not the same way these European coaches view European and South America players they view African players.
“Yes we have talent but you need to play, adjust to their weather and a lot of things, so I think he should have gone for the trials because I know Arsene Wenger has a lot of respect for African players.”
Please let him make his choice, if he doesn’t feel confortable with their approach, let him be. I think he his a wonderful player whether he plays in Nigeria or offshore.
