The South-West zone of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday lifted the suspension order placed on former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose and some executive members of the party, who were earlier in the week suspended by the state chapter of the party.
Rising from a meeting of the executive committee of the party in South West zone in Lagos, the party’s zonal exco directed that suspension by the state PDP had been set aside and ordered a return to status quo ante.
The decision to reverse the suspension, according to a statement issued by the chairman, caretaker committee of the party in the zone, Chief Ishola Filani, was taken so as not to jeopardize the party’s chances in the 2014 governorship election in the state.
Those listed as beneficiaries of the reversal of their suspension are former Governor Ayo Fayose; State Chairman, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe; Secretary, Dr. T.K Aluko; Public Relations Officer, Pastor Kola Oluwawole; Woman Leader, Busola Oyebode; Treasurer, Deolu Aluko; Youth Leader, Taye Olatunji, and Director-General, Information, Chief Gboyega Aribisangan.
“The raging crisis,” according to the statement, “will not add any value to the party in Ekiti but will destroy it totally.”
To resolve the misunderstanding, the Zonal Exco, “has set up a five-man committee to look into the crisis and come up with a resolution/recommendation within 10 days.”
Filani explained that as a first step, he and two other Ekiti indigenes in the Zonal Exco “will visit the state to ensure there is peace in the state PDP”.
The five-member committee is headed by Dr. Yomi Finnih, with Hon. Ebenezer Alabi, chairman, Ondo State chapter of the party as Secretary. Other members of the committee are Mrs Ayoka Lawani, Chief Zaccheaus Oyekunle and Arch. Ayo Olowofoyeku.
