Two Nigerians and four expatriates were allegedly kidnapped yesterday in Buguma, Asaritoru local government area of Rivers state while on their way to the state government’s owned fish farm in the area.
Confirming the development to newsmen in Port Harcourt, commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Chinda said one of them later died in a bid to escape.
According to him, the kidnappers forced all of them into a waiting boat, but later released the two Nigerians.
The Commissioner said the four expatriates were from Thailand, noting that one of the Nigerians released in the middle of the high sea by the kidnappers out of panic jumped into the sea and drowned.
“A group of six workers consisting of two Nigerians and four Thailand nationals, were on their way to our Buguma Fish Farm when they were forced to a halt by some gun-totting marauders, who forced them into another boat.
“While they tried to force them into the creek, one of the Nigerians out of fear jumped into the water and instantly drowned.
“They forced the other Nigerian out of the boat and made away with the four foreigners. The kidnappers have before now discontinued all these acts of aggression and criminal acts, until they became emboldened by the fact that they believe that security is out of the state Government’s hand and that they have superiority over the security agents.
Now, the danger is that they are all coming out of their hiding and terrorizing people of the state,” the Commissioner said
