Imo Police Bust Child-trafficking Gang, Save 4-month-old Baby

Police Command in Imo State on Wednesday reported rescuing a four-month old baby from suspected child traffickers.

police_logo_highresTwo female medical doctors, Dr. Sandra Odimega and Dr. Azuka OdikeĀ  were arrested over their alleged involvement in a baby factory racket and child trafficking in the state. Police also nabbed a couple, Prince Sunday and Mrs. Sarah Okorie, who are the parents of the rescued baby.

While Dr. Odimega was apprehended in her hospital, Favour Hospital and Maternity, Awo-Omama in Oru East local government area, Imo State, Dr. Odike was arrested in her hospital, Angels and Mercy hospital, No.19 Ajiwe Street, Aba, Abia State.

Parading the registered medical doctors at the commandā€™s headquarters in Owerri, the state capital, alongside the couple, the deputy police public relations officer, Elvis Abanga, said that the suspects were arrested in July after a tip-off.

He disclosed that the parents of the male child, Dr. Odimega and the buyer of the baby, Ebere Ngozi Gloria,Ā  who lives inĀ  Onitsha, Anambra state were arrested in the process of executing the evil deal.

ā€œThe doctor took custody of the mother of the baby when she was pregnant and immediately the child was delivered, the father conspired with the doctor to sell the baby at the cost of N500,000.

ā€œThe medical doctor immediately engaged one Ogechi Ahanna who also contacted the prospective buyers and when eventually the baby was sold, at N500,000, the parents of the baby were given N300,000,ā€ he added.

In a related development, the ambush squad attached to the Command also arrested one pastor Emmanuel Onu from Ezinihitte in Ezinihite local government area of the state who impregnated one Nkeiru Chukwuemeka and conspired to sell the baby after it was delivered.
