The 14 commissioners in the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, who were expelled on Monday from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by the state factional chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, have maintained that they are still members of the party.
Information Nigeria reports that Obuah, at a press briefing yesterday at the Aba Road secretariat of the party in Port Harcourt, announced the expulsion of the 14 commissioners, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff (Government House) and two others, for refusing to appear without just cause, before its performance evaluation committee, which sat between August 22, and August 24, 2013.
But speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, one of the affected commissioners, Chief Victor Tombari Giadom, who oversees the ministry of works, said it was only the national executive committee of the PDP that had the constitutional powers to expel public officers from the party.
Giadom said; “I think that the expulsion is unconstitutional and the national leadership of the party will not allow it to stand.
“I see no reason why the kangaroo expulsion in Port Harcourt will stand because the provisions of the law and constitution are clear that only the national working committee can expel a public officer.
“I don’t see why we should be bothered about that,” he stressed.
Giadom added that “We will take all necessary steps to ensure that we stand by the provisions of the law. You don’t expect something that is opposite the law to strive. Our expulsion will start and end at Aba Road (state PDP secretariat).”
Its right time Rivers State Govt Officials stop all this their troubles they are causing this state and face reality. If you as a leader wouldn’t respect authorities because the state Governor wouldn’t allow you to,then you all are a total disgrace to your families and communities.. And can never grow individually politically and otherwise. Its just an evidence that you are misleading the state with your govt. If you see the Governors selfish fight as a good fight because you all are being paid to go online saying trash. Remember that the Governor has just less than 2 years to hide under his immunity and you will face the water loo of selfness from nature.
