A 21-year-old Palestinian man was shot in the chest by Israeli troops during a night raid on village near city of Jenin, medical official say.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the soldiers had been on an overnight raid in a village near the city of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, when about 50 Palestinians started hurling stones at them.
Ahmed Imad Yusef, 21, was shot in the chest during the confrontation, medical workers said. Locals said Yusef was unarmed and worked in a vegetable market.
The military spokeswoman said reports of a Palestinian casualty were being investigated.
Violence has been on the rise in recent weeks in the West Bank, with seven other Palestinians shot dead in the territory by Israeli troops. Three Israelis have also been killed since the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks resumed in July, raising doubts about any imminent peace.
Lawmakers are far more divided this time around, unable to agree on even the ground rules for picking and choosing, like whether the revenue that will be generated by squelching tax breaks can be used to reduce the budget deficit. Theyre unlikely to settle that question without a major budget deal, which means they also would have to find agreement on entitlement cuts, which would involve striking a grand bargain on the budget something thats eluded them for almost three years.
