“No More Dialogue: Strike Continues” – ASUU Declares

It has been reported that Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) National President Dr. Nasir Faegehas declared that the strike will continue.

asuu-president-360x225He also revealed that the union has decided to cease to negotiate with the Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam’s committee, saying that the committee has nothing to deliver.

He says:

“The strike continues even if government is threatening to do the worst. There is no more dialogue with government, if the 2009 agreement is not approved. But we are willing to dialogue with anybody towards meeting ASUU’s said agreement. That is the truth.

“Our doors are open towards addressing these problems. If anybody invites us, we will be there. The only dialogue that we will not attend is that with the Suswam committee. ASUU has vowed not to listen to that committee again. The struggle is on and we are waiting and hoping that government will do what is right so that we will go back to our classes and start lecturing.

“Many students have been calling me in support of the ASUU strike and they want government to listen to us and that we should not call off the strike until the 2009 agreement is met. The condition of the universities is nothing to write home about.”

Responding to the ‘no-work no-pay’ declaration made by the federal government, the ASUU boss said:

“The Federal Government has not been paying. That statement is not applicable now since we have been working without pay.”

  1. ASuu president is lying big time. Which students are calling him to continue The strike? He should not lie against students o cos no student will tell you he or she is happy staying at home for four months. I call this hypocrisy on The part of Asuu

  2. Asuu are saying even if d strike continues for 10 years they don’t care.y will they care wen D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣̥ don’t av children schooling here.they are also compounding The problems.Rome ws not built a day since implementation is on why cant they suspend The strike?they are adamant and also FG,they shud knw dat it is we d youths that are in pains not FG.PLS SAVE THIS GENERATION FROM INTELLECTUAL DEDUNDANCY

    • Hey abasiama shut-up! U told u that lecturers are starving? What do they do with all the money that they extort from students? Can most of the lecturers justify the salaries they earn? ASUU call off this strike, u do not have my solidarity anymore – u are selfish.

  3. D FG shld better do somtin, bcos if dey hv anybdy in any of d uni or poly on strike, dey would hv done somtin abt it long ago. Patience Jonathan has gone 2 a sch in South Korea nd nw has gotten her Doctorate degree, bt her citizens re her waitin 4 strike 2 b called off b4 dey go bck 2 sch, am jst sad abt dis whole tin.

  4. The Asuu strike should continue in my opinion..though studnts re sufferin 4rm d ‘retard’…i tink fed govt should comply according 2 first promise…if this is nt settled nw,d nxt generation wl definately suffer

  5. All of una jx dey support asuu… Wait if fg did wat dey r demanding for, se our universities go give us for free?… Think twice na b4 posting rubbish here… Diz asuu pple r jx fighting for thr selfish interest, dat iz jx d truth. Dey r only planing on how dem go dey collect big big money… Foolish pple

  6. I pity many of u who are nao blaming ASSU,your mind and your mentality is battered already,u’re resilient to hard life and disorderliness, many of u dnt kno what is appropriate or what the appropriate setting should be and thats y the whites wl stil continue to dominate the black, even if ure blind to al d glaring facts, what bout d fact that ur Senate is the highest paid in the world more than US,UK,Russia etc senates,in Nigeria an average senator receives 23 million naira monthly and we av 109 senators,we need Revolution like d one in Egypt,u’ve got to say No once,u cnt continue accepting ds idiotic system and pls as individuals,we shld take ds into our skulls,we must learn to say No Status Quo and always demand 4 d best,a white man wont live in a house without flowers n painting but a black man can stil manage a house without toilet, see nao, flowers and toilet.Slavery mentality must stop.LETS SUPPORT ASSU,and I want public debate on ds

    • Post-Egypt revolution, how far? I don’t think u know what revolution is all about. Why must u compare senators and lecturers? This thing is by choice, if the lecturers are not comfortable with their salaries let them join politics but let them know that not all politicians can get to the senate. Who is really calculating how much a lecturer receives with all the allowances and extortion? The hundreds of billions of naira invested in the universities what improvement have u seen? I’ll support a separate body with a mandate to turn around the universities and other institutions of higher learning not ASUU as it is presently constituted.

  7. Asuu or whatever the name is should know that they are not the only Nigerian workers. compare to others, they are even better off. nothing works in naija, everything is grounded cuZ of corruption and no one can be hold responsible except all of us. we students are ready to manage the situation just like we do every other sector in naija. I’ve personally sample the opinions of other students and none want to remain at home. asuu we all know you’re fighting for yourselves so stop lying on students.

  8. The federal Govt r bin sturbon, d asuu too same. Bt dt doz nt mean children shuld sit at home busy doing ntin. Wht r d asuu demanding moni for? R dey nt paying dem monthly salaries? Wt sch facilities du dey wnt to install, wt v dey bin using al d sch fees n oda programes dt dey v bin doing to du, were are al d monies dt student pay to dem during sch period? Fed govt n assu has no concerte rsns for dia action.

  9. I wonder if those people supporting asuu in this lingering strike are students or have been in the four walls of the University….Cos if they are, they would know the plights of students and empathise with them.

  10. I fink al dos supportin ASUU ar ASUU’s ghost or spy web workers. A well minded student can NEVA & wil NEVA support ASUU in dis mata. ASUU,na we una dey figth 4,we say we no want AGAIN, call off d strike if really u’re fightin 4 us

  12. people like Simon na I too know wan kill dem. putting the cart before the horse. with an unbridled tongue, talking revolution. for asuu to say that they can strike for 10 years if their demands are not met shows that this their so call fight is never for students but for their pot belly. and I wonder who asked Dr nasir who and who had called him? it’s clear what his aim is. to make it looks like students are those urging him to strike on. I challenge all students wet gallant, let all rise up and revolt against asuu.

  13. It’s quite glaring 4rm d current ctuatn @ hand, dat d NGR govt does not hav d intrest of d youths @ heart. I think it’s high time d youths rose against d injustice of dis heartles govt. I support ASUU al d way.

  14. Back to the drawing table…..ASUU aint close to calling
off the strike!their demands are over the
    government’s ability(so they say)!
Just had a gaze on all of the requests made by ASUU
to the gov’t and it got me on tip toes because
    everything is for themselves!
Strike is sure workers force to get what they want
from the gov’t,but it beats ma imagination that in all
of the high amounts and requests made by.
ASUU,the word STUDENT did not appear, even for
once!lists ranginging from N6M salary per
annum……to N100,000 for any field trip embarked by
the lecturer, including pays of about N20,000 for
exam supervision and all sorts of insurance(health
especially) for lecturers and their spouse and at least
4children,sure its a good thing but now the part the
gov’t aint ready to satisfy is the autonomy of ASUU
U(ASUU) want the gov’t to take care of you and your
families and yet you want to be independent of the
gov’t involving in your rules and regulation
implementation,ma bros if na u,u go gree???
The flaming back side is that even if an agreement is
reached which seems feasible right now, there will
surely be another strike because the gov’t is sure not
    able to keep up.
So this is how it gets down…….the gov’t are not on the
campuses, therefore our beloved ASUU just submit
the list of all the hiked pay to gov’t and gov’t pays
without been involved in their activities,ma people we
never talk of CORRUPTION yet ooooo!
So for example,a lecturer might just sleep over and
he’s receiving tons of thousands and millions by just
encrypting his name on the pay list!e clear say I too
    wan become LECTURER!!!
God’ll help us!but for the main time, VICTIMS
(students) of the strike should get BUSY!!!
An IDLE man, they say is the DEVIL’S WORkSHOP//
    pauhhhhhhhhhhhh//
What do you guys think of both parties stands…..!

    • God bless u Zik for making out time to look at the selfish demand of ASUU unlike some blind followers here. It is not done anywhere – is it not from the lecturers we hear that ‘he who pays the piper detates the tone’…

  15. When the elephants fight the grasses sufer the outcome. In my own opinion i want to strike suspended. The asuu president kmows that his children are nt here dats y he is suffering us. How can they call off the strike when have imagined the huge money they wil l be making out of it. The president shed his pride and came to them with a plea and promise and yet they have the guts to disrespect that humility. I cry for this country because they do not knw the impression they are inscribing on the innocent hearts of the youths. I perceive smthn ugly.
