CHAN 2014: Okwuosa Tips Home-Based Eagles to Get On Well on the Good Pitches of South Africa.

James Okwuosa says he expects the Super Eagles Team B bound for the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to make proper use of the good pitches readily available in the host nation’s stadiums.

Nigeria has been pitched with hosts, South Africa, Mali and Mozambique in Group A of the tournament which begins on January 11.

The home-based Eagles, alongside its group counterparts play all their matches at the Cape Town Stadium and may remain at the same venue for their quarter-final match, should they come top of the group standing.

Mangaung Stadium, Bloemfontein and Polokwane will share the other two quarter-final matches. Both semi-final matches will take place in Mangaung with Cape Town hosting third-place play-offs as well as the final.

The former Enugu Rangers defender, who made his debut appearance for the Super Eagles as a substitute in the 2-0 win over South Africa in the Mandela Challenge Cup in August, said Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents but lack good pitches.

“Nigeria have a lot of good players and I see them doing well in CHAN in January,” the 23-year-old Chippa United centre-back said. “The good pitches in South Africa will make the team do well.

“If I am still in South Africa by then, I will be there to support them from the stands.”
