Police Dispell Rumours Of Bomb In Ebonyi

Ebonyi State Police Command yesterday called on members of the public to disregard the false alarms being masterminded by some mischievous elements that fabricate and concealed some “funny gadgets that blink light intermittently” as if it were an improvised explosive device or bomb.

Briefing Newsmen in Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu noted it was the sixth time the rumour of bomb discovery had filtered into the state by miscreants to cause panic and tension in the state.

However the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Dikko noted that the force was forming a strong synergy with other security agencies to effectively check incidences of crime in the state.

Dikko, who stated this when the Correspondent Chapel of the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, paid him courtesy call, added “the task of securing the lives and properties of individuals does not lie with the police alone, it needs the cooperation of others such as the Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, etc.

“We also promote the Community Policing concept which would involve the active participation of individuals to bring the crime level in the society to a manageable level, he said.

The Police Spokesman alleged that such fake gadgets were wired to trees and shrubs and placed at adjoining farm routes long tarred roads or other strategic locations, with the impression that a bomb was planted therein, just to scare people and cause impression.

According to him, “The miscreants fabricate and conceal some funny electronic gadgets that blink intermittently as if it were an IED-Improvise Explosive device or bomb.” [Thisday]
