UNN Crisis Deepens As Council Suspends ASUU Chairman, 2 Others

The crisis trailing University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, Governing Council took another dimension at the weekend as the

University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, branch chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU-UNN, Dr. Ifeanyi Abada and two executive members were, weekend suspended by the Governing Council of the school, for allegedly working against the interest of their members.

This came also with a series of crisis trailing the removal of Dr. Emeka Enejere as Chairman/Pro-Chancellor.

In a resolution reached after its emergency congress at Nsukka and signed by the Acting Chairperson and Secretary of ASUU-UNN, Dr. Adibe Agbo and Jude Chukwu respectively, the union said Dr. Abada was suspended from the executive committee for failing to take as priority the welfare of members.

Suspended along with the chairman were Mr. Tochukwu Omenma, Financial Secretary and Mrs. Christy Obikeguna, Welfare Officer, while Dr. Adibe Agbo, Jude Chukwu, Ifeoma Nzekwe and Mr. Onah were  elected as acting chairperson, secretary, financial secretary and welfare officer respectively.

ASUU members in the school had since the removal of Enejere expressed their displeasure and had called on the federal government to reinstate him and remove the Vice Chancellor, of the university, Prof. Bartho Okolo, who had been accused of maladministration in the university. Several protests have been held to ensure the government accedes to their request.
