The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Mr Chris Olakpe has threatened to arrest any traditional ruler that encourages violence in his domain.
The threat came on the heels of last week’s attack in Vwang Village of Jos South Local Government, where some persons lost their lives.
The police boss noted that as the custodian of law and custom in their domains, traditional rulers are saddled with the onerous responsibility to maintain peace, law and order.
Olakpe spoke in Jos on Monday at a stakeholders meeting with traditional rulers.
He vowed to personally go after any monarch, no matter how highly placed, who promotes violence in any area under his control.
According to him, “I will personally go after any traditional ruler that promotes violence in their domain; I promised not to tolerate any killings again in the state”.
Mr. Olakpe, who is due for retirement in June, said he would ensure that peace is permanently restored on the Plateau before he retires
He, however, tasked all the local government interim administrators in the state on the need to support their respective monarchs in the maintenance of peace and cordial existence, adding that he would continue to interact with local leaders to promote peace.
