Former National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has emphasised the need for Nigerians to support those in leadership positions at all levels to ensure national development.
He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja when the Goodluck Support Group, a political pressure group affiliated to the PDP paid him a courtesy call.
“Support your leaders because they are your embodiment of your originality, what we do not own we cannot take care off it,” Tukur said.
“We need to believe and support our own to ensure good governance and development in all sectors.”
He also advised critics of President Goodluck Jonathan to be constructive and to ensure that their criticism brought about a better society.
He, however, commended the group for their support, patriotism and commitment to the country, the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
Tukur explained that the PDP was today regarded as the greatest party in Africa because of the support of the group and Nigerians.
He added that the PDP would continue to be united and strong to enthrone a better future for all Nigerians.
“A strong party breeds a strong nation and a stronger man breeds a strong economy,” Tukur said.
He said the opposition might be singing a different tune since the PDP led Federal Government was doing a lot in all sectors to improve the lots of the people.
He further urged the group to encourage and mobilise Nigerians in the Diaspora to return to the country and contribute to government`s development efforts.
“If you do not come back, please look back,’’ he said.
Earlier, Dr Eddy Olafeso, Deputy National Coordinator of the group, said that the visit was to pay homage to Tukur and thank him for his selfless service to the PDP and Nigeria.
He described Tukur as an astute politician and a businessman who had done well for the nation and the PDP.
He stressed that Tukur should be held in high esteem, recent events in the PDP notwithstanding.
Olafeso called on all Nigerians to rally round President Jonathan especially in times of challenges, adding that this was critical to ensure national development.
Olafeso said that President Jonathan in the last two years had done well in all sectors of the economy.
He expressed hope that with Tukur as the Chairman of the National Railway Corporation, the corporation would get a boost that would benefit Nigerians.
